TV Setup For Meedio

A newbies guide to setting up Meedio TV for New Zealand.

First you’re going to need a good xmltv source, and thanks to TVNZ
being petty about “intellectual property”, there is no official/reliable
one avialable. I use Revens XMLTVNZ and it works a charm.
(I won’t go into setting XMLTVNZ up, as its all covered on Revens Site)

Note: Revens XMLTV doesn’t seem to work so well anymore.  I’ve been getting EPG data from a private source (someone I know with freeview on their MYTHTV Box).  I’ve had djkxml suggested, I haven’t tried it with Meedio, but it looks good.

XMLTVNZ makes a few xml files, but the only one you need is the main xmltv file (I call mine xmltv.xml). Make sure you copy this file to it’s own directory as the extra files seem to break Meedio.

Before you start Setting up Meedio TV, You’ll need to fix microsofts
Directshow TV Frequency Blunder. Run this registry fix to allow all available NZ frequencies. Only use this in NZ!

Now on to the setup.

Section 1: Setting up the Meedio TV listings.

Step 1:

Open the Meedio TV Wizard and choose “Configure TV Listings And Channels”.

Step 2:

Choose the “Using XMLTV” option.

Step 3:

Choose the “Begin Creating the Lineup” option.

Step 4:

Give it a name (the default is fine).

TVWiz4

Step 5:

Choose “Import existing files” (you got XMLTVNZ working, didn’t you?).

TVWiz5

Step 6:

Browse for the directory of your xmltv file.
Note that you don’t need to specify a filename, just a directory.

Step 7:

This step is up to you, I recommend renaming the files as it seems to work for me.

TVWiz7

Step 8:

Leave this as default (Local).

Step 9:

Leave this as default also.

Step 10:

Yes, you want to download the listings now.

Assuming your XMLTV file is valid you’ll see something like this:

Step 11:

All done.

That wasn’t so hard was it? Now for the fun part.

Section 2: “Tuning” the channels.

Step 1:

Open “Meedio TV Lineups” located in your start menu.

TVLineup1

Step 2:

Click the “Channels” button.

Here you’ll need to find out which ‘channel’ each station broadcasts on. I’m in The Manawatu so my example will use my settings. (It may be that they’re the same throughout NZ, I can’t be bothered checking)
Your best bet is to check the websites of each station you have in this list.

Note: if you delete your lineup at any point you’ll need to repeat this step.

Step 3:

Click the “Frequencies” Button.
Select New Zealand for Country and Antenna for Anntena/Cable.
It should then look like this:

TVLineupFrequeny1

Click Create.

Step 4:

You’ll need to match the ‘Channel Number’ to the correct frequecy. A list of NZ frequencies is available here. You’ll be wanting the ‘Vision’ Frequency.

Click Save and you’re done.

Use this info ‘at your own risk’ etc.
